Yesterday was Day 7, completed and done. I have to say that the weekend was more difficult than expected, M wanted to go to Wendover, which is code for I want to smoke. Generally, he is not a fan of gambling, where I on the other hand am a pro. I don't mean to give the impression I win, I just have no problem giving my money to some metal machine. I digress, we didn't end up going and both are still smoke free.
Now, getting on to the whole healthier thing, I'm starting to feel like it is a bunch of crap (or lack there of), and at this point if you don't like to talk about poop then you should stop reading.
The thing about cigarettes, which is a known fact to smokers, is they make you regular, ya know go to bathroom on a regular basis. When you stop smoking a general side effect is constipation, which for most I guess passes, but add to that a person who has irritable bowel syndrome and your looking at a good 7 days without pooping. As M so obviously pointed out to me Sunday, that is not healthy you need to see a doctor. To which I replied, I'll give it another week. Needless to say I don't need to see a doctor, nature and pharmaceuticals work wonders for the GI tract (particularly the latter).
Surgeon General's warning should say on the pack "If you start smoking, be aware you will never be able to poop without intervention, ever again." or " Smoking may lead to death from being so full of shit you suffocate" The wording may need some help, I'm just throwing suggestions out there.
So here's to being healthier!
Two words...Fiber Choice. You can get about a year's worth a Costco for the cost of two packs of cigarettes:)
ReplyDeleteHang in there friend. It gets easier. This weekend they're having the Home Show at the Southtown Expo Center. I mention this because Jeff took me there the weekend I quit smoking in 2004. He want to take me someplace I couldn't smoke. It's not Wendover, but hey, your clothes won't stink when you get home:)
I don't recall ever having that problem when I quit smoking. But here's the deal . . . getting older does have an affect so maybe the two hit at the same time. There is an easy solution. ALL BRAN cereal (the original, not the one with fruit of buds, etc) is the highest cereal in fiber and if you start having it for breakfast you will be breaking free in no time. Eat too much and you'll be crapping your pants so pay attention to portion control. But since you are doing the BMF I know you are doing that anyway.
ReplyDeleteNow you know that runners (of which I am) do not like to be on a run and have a sudden need to poop. So for this reason, regularity is VERY important to me. So I tell ya, get that All Bran and you can set your clock it!
Now having said this, there is a catch. You can't have all this fiber (and seriously I challenge anyone to find a cereal that is higher in fiber) and have great taste. The stuff tastes like cardboard. BUT, the effect is worth it. I just add a bit of flax seed accompanied by a banana and it helps. A tasty, low calorie, high fiber start to your day that is nicely finished off with a great dump.
Graphic? Maybe, but you should NEVER start talking pooping issues to a runner. We know no bounds!!
Oh . . . great job on the not smoking : )
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelly and Carol for the suggestions, I actually have meds from my GI doctor I just choose not to take them. Saying that, Flax seed I do like and it definitely has it's benefits so I might start adding that to some stuff.
ReplyDeleteSherri, I actually know what you mean. I can honestly say it does get better. Just hang in there. So proud of you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary
